Writer and Director M. Night Shyamalan always had Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson in mind to play the roles of David Dunn and Elijah Price.

One of Quentin Tarantino's favourite films.

After years of development on a follow-up film, Split, with Willis reprising his role as David Dunn in a cameo role, was released in January 2017. After the financial and critical success of Split, Shyamalan immediately began working on a third film, titled Glass, which was released in 2019, in so making Unbreakable the first installment in the Unbreakable trilogy.

Julianne Moore was offered the part of Audrey Dunn but turned it down to work on Hannibal (2001).
