After Palpatine mysteriously returns, the Resistance faces the First Order once more in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.
Metascore (Critics) Rating 5.4/10
A poor rating from the critics. The Guardians Steve Rose rated it 6/10 and wrote:
"If you’re going to do a send-off this huge, there are a lot of goodbyes to say, and a lot of loose ends to tie up. The fact that The Rise of Skywalker manages most of them and within a vaguely coherent story is something of an achievement in itself."
IMDB User Rating 7/10
The ordinary folk were a little kinder with their score bur as is normal some loved it some hated it. Mary River rated it 7/10 on 26/12/19 and wrote
"It's Craftsmanship vs story. The story put me to sleep but the craftsmanship is fascinating. I wish some really gifted writers would lift this story line and move it forward using 21st century physics and pushing the envelope. It seems just a kids movie now lots of noise and violence, too bad it has such potential."
I possibly agree with both the above reviewers. This is a great action film but the name carries it through, just about.
I have always found the Star Wars storylines very repetitive even from the originals. They got away with it as it was something brand new. So now the special effects though brilliant in the main again are what the movie is about.
The story is ok but again a little deviation to the theme would have been nice.
Not really for adults these days but then again too much for kids as well. This is the ninth and last, lets hope we see one or two cleverly written and interesting spin offs in the "Mandalorian" style although that also has its repetitive faults in only a few 30 minute episodes.
It was ok, some of the scenes were great but overall it may be a while before I watch again. Perhaps on the BBC in 2024 or something ;)
