The Hollywood Reporter Todd McCarthy scored 4/10
Antic and frantic, Spies is very much a one-joke affair, which is fine for a short but woefully insufficient for a 101-minute feature.
Empire Ian Freer scored 6/10
Better in conception than execution, Spies In Disguise never really gets the best out of its James Bond Is A Pigeon high concept. The result is entertaining while it lasts, but won’t lodge itself permanently in your memory bank.
Entertainment Weekly Christian Holub scored 7.5/10
It’s a proud piece of family entertainment with a good heart, an eye for inventive action, and a delightfully wacky sense of humor.
IMDB USER Rating 6.8/10
Some comments and scores
Quite a nice surprise… 6/10
Movie is boring but nice message. 5/10
Better than expected 8.10
Lazy plot and dated animation 3/10
A good, cute and funny spy movie 7/10
I still have good memories of the film Valiant from 2005 with Ewan McGregor, Ricky Gervais, Tim Curry, where At the height of World War II, a tiny wood pigeon enlists in the elite Royal Homing Pigeon Service to serve Britain
So it was nice 15 years later to have a modern day rats with wings picture and what a budget $100m. I can possibly see where the budget went and perhaps to justify it and at 1hr 40m with credits, for an animated film it is just too long.
There are really good elements to the film but at 20 mins less they would have been much closer together making the movie more watchable.
The film does get a good rating from the public and I believe it will do well on home release as it has built up a good young following already. Without the voice and presence of Will Smith this film may have been totally forgettable.
Stars of the film definitely the bedraggled flock of pigeons and will smith makes a better flying rat than a gemini man for instance
MGN Rating 6/10
