Robert The Bruce (2019) 15

2hr 4m, Historical

The story of the nobleman-turned-outlaw hero who was crowned King of Scots in the 14th century.
Director: Richard Gray

Stars: Gabriel Bateman, Talitha Eliana Bateman, Mhairi Calvey

Any Good?

Not the greatest of ratings from most but I gave it a minimum watchable score of 6.

Listing Braveheart as one of my favourite films of all time and a big fan of the TV series Outlander, I as a patriotic Englishman do have a fondness for these historic efforts, although very little is normally based on fact.

Sadly this movie is nowhere near a Braveheart or even a Liam Neesons Rob Roy. Most of the action scenes are in the numerous two-minute trailers and don't expect any sweeping battle scenes, there are zero. There are three or four small fights that are well done. But this is a drama about a struggling family and The Bruce recovering his health after fleeing from bounty hunters.

Too long and many find it boring. It held my attention but only just but it is what it is a low budget drama. Think I'll dig out my Braveheart DVD.

MGN Rating 6/10 IMDB Rating 5.2/10
