Movie Review

Judy (2019)

Legendary performer Judy Garland arrives in London in the winter of 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts.

Stars: Renée Zellweger, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock

Any Good?

I love Biopics, I love Musicals, I love Judy Garland, I love Renee Zellwegger. Yes you've guessed it, I..... Like this and that's all sadly.

As with Laurel & Hardy which I enjoyed it concentrates on two time periods. In the case of Judy, a young Judy at the time of Wizard of Oz and the tired, ill, troubled Judy on her trip to the UK only months before her early death.

Renee is excellent and I believe she is releasing an album based on this, but her singing is passable but I won't be rushing out to buy it I'm afraid.

Just feel that the movie missed a trick and at under two hours was always onto a loser with such a challenging story to tell. The sort of thing that would be best served with an episodic biopic. This leaves too much untold and unsaid.

Not a disaster but a missed opportunity.

MGN Rating 7/10
