Booksmart (2019) 15
1h 42min, Comedy

On the eve of their high school graduation, two best friends realize they should have worked less and played more. So the girls try to cram four years of fun into one night.

Stars: Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Jessica Williams

A rare thing for this genre of film these days a film that is really liked by the critics and not quite so much by Joe Public.

I liked this and it was a pleasant surprise to some of the mundane US high school movies out there. Both lead female characters were played well, ably assisted by good acting all around. Even Lisa Kudrow makes a quirky appearance.

Mixed on whether this is a female equivalent of 2007's Superbad. It has a lot of that feel to it in my opinion but both are really watchable in their own right.

As a sixty-year-old guy from the UK, I enjoyed it.

If you watch this and enjoy it, and have not watched Superbad go back and watch it ;)

MGN Rating 7/10
