After season 11, I was pretty disgusted with the series. The episodes were poorly written (ie social commentary) and strayed away from the story telling, that every Dr.Who Fan has become accustomed too. However, Season 12, Episode 1 seems to have gotten back to it's roots, and reminds me of the Doctor Who we all know and love. Hopefully, this will bring the fan base back and keep this show going for many years to come. It's a great show and there's a reason why it's been going since 1963. I just hope the rest of this season continues this trend.
I will state now since Capaldi this iconic TV series has been somewhat in decline as far as acting abilities and story lines. I watch out of loyalty and hope for the occasional ok episode.
I am a big fan of Jodie Whittaker, although again her acting is less than top notch, but series 11 for me was a disappointment with too much PC stuff from the BBC and in all fairness some wooden acting especially from the Doctors companions. (Tosin Cole is the very worst of an average bunch and just simply annoys me)
There is no need for four companions anyway, but again Season 12 kicks off with the same.
This episode which is a two parter has paid homage to a certain spy with it's title and theme and in all fairness is not the worst episode I've seen but again with the poor mix of likeable characters who's acting hasn't improved, it is still struggling to impress.
When Lenny Henry and Stephen Fry are the best as far as acting ability on the screen, it does not bode well, but at least these two added something to the story and for that I am grateful.
I sort of look forward to part two, as at least we have something to look forward to. (I wont spoil it by saying any more) but if this is going to be the best this series has to offer, again I may be left frustrated, but fingers crossed.
