A singing mechanic from 1912 finds himself in Arthurian Britain.
Director: Tay Garnett
ARISE SIR BING: Legend Bing Crosby stars in this classic fantasy adaptation of the Mark Twain Literature classic. Mixed reviews on release but over the years has grown into a film looked back on kindly. For those who scoff at the clever eclipse trick being pure fantasy it is said that Mark Twain got his idea for Hank Martin to use the eclipse for his benefit from Christopher Columbus. Columbus was stranded in Jamaica in 1503, on his fourth voyage, Columbus and his crew were wearing out their welcome with the natives, who were looking after them. Columbus knew a lunar eclipse was coming, so he "predicted" the Moon's disappearance. The natives begged him to bring it back and, of course, he did, in due time. In doing so probably saved the lives of himself and his crew.
