A Box Office hit. Marlene Dietrich allegedly had a real-life crush on Tyrone Power during shooting. According to his biographer, the actor was embarrassed by her advances. This was Elsa Lanchester last movie of 10 with her husband Charles Laughton. Elsa Lanchester used to delight in broadcasting Marlene Dietrich's secrets. Though Dietrich was never secretive about her famous "face tape lifts," Unsure if he could realistically play a man with a heart condition, Charles Laughton staged a fake heart attack in the pool one day at home. Elsa Lanchester, and a friend panicked and pulled him from the water, at which point he explained his trick. How Lanchester's reacted has not been recorded. But they did stay married. The producers were so concerned about the financial success of the film that during the credits, an announcer urges the audience not to reveal the film's ending to anyone.
